Your Guide to Healthy Lifestyle
What are vitamins?
Vitamins are essential organic substances that required in tiny amount for the normal body functions and development. Unlike the macronutrients (carbohydrate, protein, fat), vitamins do not supply energy directly but they regulate the energy production processes.
Vitamins are divided into 2 groups based on their solubility’s feature, either:
i) water soluble (B-complex vitamin & Vitamin C) or
ii) fat soluble (Vitamin A, D, E, K).
Each of them has its own unique role to play and deficiency of any of them may cause a specific syndrome. Our body is able to obtain enough vitamins if we have a balanced diet with variety choices of foods.
