Body shape – “Apple” and “Pears”

Stand in front of mirror; do you have a body shape like an apple or pear?

To determine the healthy weight, besides BMI, it is important to look into the amount of total body fat and also the location of the fat.  The distribution of fat will give a different impact to your body as shown below:

Being an “apple” or “pear” is partially influenced by the gene. However, a person’s lifestyle may affect the fat distribution too. For instances, smoking and excessive alcoholic beverages consumption may increase the fat carried in stomach area. In contrast, vigorous exercise may help to reduce the fat.

Health risks increase as the waist circumferences goes up. Women with waist circumferences more than 35 inches (88cm) and men with waist circumferences more than 40 inches (102cm) have much greater risk of weight-related health problems.
